CEC Report on Decommissioning Gas Infrastructure
“How to Select Strategic Pilot Sites to Decommission Portions of Gas Infrastructure in Southern California” has been published by the California Energy Commission.
The project accomplishes three goals:
It articulates an analytical framework for the process of selecting decommissioning sites.
It offers guidelines based on that framework to inform future decommissioning site selections.
It identifies three sites in the City of Santa Monica and two in the City of Long Beach and provides preliminary estimates of some costs and benefits associated with decommissioning there.
LARC played a critical role in connecting the researchers at RAND with staff from Los Angeles County, City of Santa Monica, City of Long Beach, and SoCalGas. The partnerships forged were necessary to model decommissioning in real-world locations with real utility data.
