UCLA Luskin Center for Innovation Report on Communicating Heat Risk
UCLA Luskin Center for Innovation published the report “Communicating Heat Risk: A guide to inclusive, effective, and coordinated public information campaigns”, authored by Lauren Dunlap and with research guidance from Erin Coutts. LARC’s #HeatSafeLA campaign was highlighted in this report as a recent Californian campaign to raise awareness about local heat risk and protections, which included “social media content, printed flyers, and advertisements on buses and bus shelters” tailored to high risk populations (Dunlap, 2024). The report also noted LARC’s plans to partner with influencers for the 2024 #HeatSafeLA campaign, citing it as an example of how partnerships can make content more relatable and expand its reach to targeted wider audiences.
