UCLA Study on Decarbonization

To further address the climate crisis and fulfill the university’s Sustainability Plan commitment to create a pathway to decarbonization, UCLA is engaging in a decarbonization study to identify ways to accelerate and achieve a switch to low-carbon energy sources. The study is part of a University of California (UC) systemwide climate action commitment to bend the global warming curve, clear our air and advance a healthier and thriving California.

To learn more about the decarbonization study, read this blog post on the UCLA Sustainability website and follow the progress of the study on the UCLA Decarbonization Planning website. The site includes a recording of recent town halls, a link to a draft executive summary and a survey for input.

In July 2023, UC adopted a stronger climate policy that shifts away from the prior carbon neutrality goal that depended heavily on offsets and commits all 10 campuses and their medical centers to reduce total GHG emissions by 90% by 2045, aligning the university system’s plans with the net-zero carbon pollution goals set by the state of California.
